A New Shawty In The ATL...... and she's "Serious" Cristal


If you've seen Flava Flav's show on VH1 then you have had the priviledge to see this Detroit native, ATL representative of a "Georgia Peach".. Serious, which she was nicknamed by the hiphop jester himself, Flav, is the one and only Cristal...

I was born Cristal Athena Steverson June 12, 1982 to Debra Steverson in Detroit, MI. I have 2 sisters, Octavia and Diamond... I am the middle. I graduated from what is academically the second best high school in the country... I'm a big nerd. I moved from Detroit when I was 18 to Nashville, TN. I left Nashville for Pittsburgh, PA for college. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2002 and graduated the following year. I have worked as a professional model for almost 3 years, enjoying the different opportunities and experiences it has afforded me.
I am the silliest yet serious, carefree yet determined individual you will ever meet. I am a true gemini! I am a regular, everyday person. If you catch me on the streets, I'll probably have on flip flops and jeans with no makeup and a ponytail. I love to shop, surf the net, and drink wine. I love dogs(althought I don't have one), my family, and history (told you I was a big nerd). I'm energetic, spontanteous, outgoing, and creative. I love to meet and speak with new people!!!

MSP:Cristal, are you there?
cristalse: Yeah Im here
MSP: That's what's up! How was the Sea Awards (Southern Entertainment Awards)
cristalse: I got sick and couldnt go... Ive had a hellava weekend
MSP: Where are u based now
cristalse: I'm based in Atlanta
MSP: ok ,do you have pics of your tshirts yet?
cristalse: I have to redo the Superbowl one but I have the Flavor Flav one and the Valentine (limited edition) one.I will email both to you after we finish

MSP: are you ready to answer some questions now?
cristalse:I'm ready!
MSP: That's cool! How long have u been in atlanta?
cristalse: I have been in the ATL for 4 years
MSP: Have u ever danced in any of the strip clubs. You know it's a tradition in the south....
cristalse: Yeah since I got here I realized it is a tradition yet I've never danced.
cristalse: I am a patron though
MSP: Ok,So you like to hang out at them? What's your fav ATL spot?
cristalse: In Atlanta... it really depends but Magic has definitely made a comeback!
MSP: That's so true! Magic Mondays are real hot!!!
cristalse: They have the best women, food, and general atmosphere and Mondays are always off the chain
MSP: TRUE! TRUE! Are U single or dating?
cristalse: Depends on who you ask
MSP: I'm asking only you....
cristalse: Sometimes Im single, sometimes Im dating.I'm a Gemini so it depends on how I feel.
MSP: You so crazy!!!
MSP: I'm Aquarius so I understand!My Birthday was this past Saturday
cristalse: Happy Birthday!!! My moms is an Aquarius... we would get along... Wanna date? LOL
MSP: Don't mess with my head! You're a star already!
cristalse: Star? Not me... Im the most regular person in the world

MSP: What was the Flava Flav show like?
cristalse: It was crazy. It was definitely an experience like no other.
MSP: Have you gotten more work since you've done the show?
cristalse: Not necessarily more work, just different work. Before the show I did photoshoots, fashion shows, ect., things where people just looked at me. Now I am getting hired for radio, interviews... more personality driven things
cristalse: Which is cool cause I love to talk!
MSP: I heard your interview the other night with Kay Slay, would you like to do mixtapes and radio stuff or maybe host some parties??!!
cristalse: Oh yea fo sho. Like I said I love to talk and hosting parties is right up my alley cause I am a drinker
MSP: Who does your booking and what's their info?

MSP: Are U going to get into any acting? You're made for the movies!!!
cristalse: Radio, Movies, TV, Commercial, Magazines, whatever... I'm ready
MSP: Well Nat Turner made me a believer that you are a star! So I went and watched the VH1 show and he's right!
cristalse: Thats wassup. I have always believed in myself but its a whole new thing when people believe it with you. I have gotten so much love since the show... I'm ready!
MSP: Do you have any shows coming up in the South?! What's your schedule look like?

cristalse: I'm hosting my own Valentines party where I will be raffling off a date (which I will pay for... cause Im a real bitch) with me on Sat. Feb 11 in Atlanta at the new Club Caliente
cristalse: I'm also negotiating parties in Charlotte, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville.
MSP: Send Nat Turner, the promotion artwork for your Valentines party as well as the pics for your Tshirt.
cristalse: Ok I will get you that tonight
cristalse: I taped a documentary that will air on HBO in May but the premier is here in Atlanta in March.
MSP: Send the info so we can blast everyone about you! You are a breathe of fresh air! You are a real businesswoman!!!

MSP: That's Whassup! You should be in charge of you! I could talk you to death but I won't because I know you're a busy person. But we want to promote you because you're beautiful, you're hot, you're now and you're new! We are new as an internet magazine but we have been in the entertainment biz for over twenty years and we love HipHop and beautiful women with some bizness about themselves. You fit the bill, Star! I'm Still Dreaming


I was just watching the news and I saw Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane being released from jail wearing a "I had a Dream" t shirt and I just watch a whole special on MLK on PBS and I wondered what would Mr. King say today about his dream. In the speech he said, quote, "So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition. In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir.
This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation.
So we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.", unquote. Have we cashed the check yet? Well as far as monetary gain and financial status, man I'm high on dro, right now and as far as societal staus, are we still holding a "bad check" Well let's look at the court system with our black celebrities and heroes, could we have had a fair chance back in MLK day to beat murder raps, gun raps, or killing a white woman rap, not if we didn't have rap muisc. Would MLK be chilling with some our rappers today with prolific thoughts such as Pac or Kanye West or would he be a hater as we call anyone who calls our character to question. I wonder if Gucci dreamed on Rice Street about freedom or did he dream about his album sales and his royalty dough that was due to him because even though he didn't sell like Jeezy, on an independant level, Gucci went "Ghetto Platinum". Now will he use his "freedom at last" to be a better man or will he "ball till he fall again" We have come a long way as far as having money, cars, houses and living like the white man but we have lost our spirit in exchange for that sucess. Our villages don't raise children anymore with thoughts of being teachers or lawyers, it's easy to "get rich or die trying", hell, our villages don't raise children at all, the dope boys in the trap raise them. Mlk wanted our people to , quote, "Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.", unquote. Well here we are back in the "Dirty", The New South with fat booty white girls and my folks who live in Buckhead, with white folks on Bankhead looking for heroin in the Bluff. But that's another story, but have we overcome? I can hear Lil Jon's voice right now saying, YEAH!! But for real have we overcome ourselves or have we undone ourselves. I hate to be a party pooper but like my namesake, I stand for rebellion and I don't care who gets mad. This my mic and my stage and I'm having a dream right now!!!!

It's been a long time since Raheem from Rap A Lot or MC Shy D from Atlanta but the South has risen. I'm proud of the South right now and I'm a little ashamed of the few beefs that we have after the long struggle. I remember visiting my Auntie in New Jersey in the Summer when I was young and I would bring my UGK with me and how my cousins called Pocket Full of Stones, "country".. What insolence!!!! Well, I'm proud to be country now, Shawty and so do New Yorkers and everybody else in the US right now because of the efforts of Lil Jon, T.I., BoneCrusher, OutKast, and so many others. D4L and Dem Franchize Boys need to forget the beef and remember the struggle to get here. It's a lot of rappers like SammySam paid bloodsweatandtears to see the sucess they're enjoying and haven't reach their plateau, so somebody give these cats a history lesson.. Mook B know better, he was there...(Front Street) But the days of the Rolexx in Miami, the Jellybean in Atlanta, JamaicaJamaica in Houston have brought us to a new day. HipHop Is King and The King lives in the Dirty South... Ludacriss, Young Jeezy, EightBallMJG, UGK need to be saluted and I know i'm leaving a lot of pioneers out but I salute you all. From Ying Yang to Kilo, From Willie D to Mike Jones and let's not forget the greatest rapper alive right now is from the N.O.(my opinion)...
